World Heritage Day 2024:
The next generation should also get to see all this and know what the legacy was like. Its purpose is to tell and inspire people and local community about the importance of cultural heritage in their lives. Along with the preservation of monuments, the purpose of this day is to increase public awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage and to give complete information about the heritage so that the heritage can get complete information about it.
Its target is to encourage people and community to value cultural heritage in their lives. International Day for Monuments and Sites, also known as World Heritage Day. This day was first celebrated in 1983. It is celebrated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It aims to promote awareness of cultural heritage and diversity.
Theme Of World Heritage Day
In 1983 the International Council on Monuments and Sites set a agenda under which certain programs are carried out that promote world heritage.
The theme of World Heritage Day 2024 is Discover and Experience Diversity. This theme highlights the richness of our history. It gives us a chance to explore the heritage of different communities and learn about it. Many programs are organized on the occasion of this day which tell us about our heritage and about the community.
Monuments In India
India has 3691 monuments and sites. Four of these have been nominated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. As we celebrate World Heritage Day 2024, let’s take a look at some historical monuments and their history.
- Taj Mahal: The Taj Mahal is considered a symbol of love. The Taj Mahal is located in Agra in India. It is made of white marble. The palace was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved Mumtaz.
- Red Fort: Red Fort is located in Delhi. Red Fort is a historical fort known as the main residence of the Mughal emperor. It has impressive red sandstone architecture. It is also known for India’s Independence Day celebrations.
- Qutub Minar: Qutub Minar is located in Delhi. Qutub Minar is the tallest eight-storey building in the world. Other historical monuments like the Iron Pillar and the Alai Darwaza are built around it.
- Temples at Hampi: Hampi, an ancient city in Karnataka, is home to a vast array of temple and palace monuments. It was once the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. It is known for its attractive rocks and historical ruins.
- Hawa Mahal: Hawa Mahal is located in Jaipur. It is also called the Palace of Winds. There are 953 windows inside hawa Mahal. It was built for the royal ladies and was designed to celebrate street festivals.
