This wildfire has been raging in Nainital for the last 36 hours. The Indian Air Force has deployed MI-17 helicopters to tackle the fire in Bambi Bucket operations. The hill station from Friday, April 26, 2024 A total of 31 forest fires were reported in pine trees in various areas including Jyolikot, Narayan Nagar, Ramgarh, Bhumiyadhar, Bhowali and Mukteshwar areas.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami is holding a meeting to discuss the measures to control the fire and Nainital Municipal Corporation Executive Officer Shri Rahul Anand said that ‘’we are getting information about Indian Air Force helicopters seeking permission to take water from Nainital to extinguish the fire. To make that arrangement, we have closed boating in the lake for the whole day. If there is news of fire somewhere in Nainital, including very close to the Air Force Station of the district, then the main purpose of bringing helicopters to extinguish the fire will be to keep the Air Force Station safe.’’
Locals of the area and High Court Assistant Registrar Anil Joshi said, the fire has engulfed an old and vacant house located near The Pines. There is no damage to the High Court colony. But it is coming closer to the building in a very dangerous manner. Today it has reached very close to the Indian Air Force establishment located near the Pines area. It is spreading very fast. In view of today, the Nainital Lake Administration has also forbidden the people of Naini Lake from going to Naini Lake.
