Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is deliberately eating mangoes and sweets every day to increase his sugar level. The Delhi court will give its decision on this new petition of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday. In this, Arvind Kejriwal has asked for permission to consult the doctor for 15 minutes daily.
According to the court hearing on Friday, the court said, “It appears to us that there is some problem with the home-cooked food that Kejriwal was allowed to eat and the food that was given to him.”
What’s the case?
Kejriwal on Friday placed a new application in which he has instructed jail authorities to give insulin and has also asked him to have a video conference with his doctor for 15 minutes every day, and he has also asked his wife to be present in it.
This development comes a day after his lawyer said he would withdraw the previous application and file a better one.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that since the judicial legacy is under intense pressure, his blood sugar levels are fluctuating at an alarming rate which is very harmful for his health which may pose a risk to him.
The court on Thursday sought a report from the jail authorities on Kejriwal’s diet in Tihar jail, including the things he consumed. Arvind Kejriwal is currently in judicial legacy. He is lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with the investigation into an alleged scam in the excise policy. He was arrested on March 21 and was kept in ED custody for some time. After being in ED custody, he was later sent to judicial custody till April 15. His judicial custody was later extended to April 23.
The argument around mangoes during Friday’s hearing
The ED had said on Thursday that despite being a diabetic patient, Kejriwal was deliberately eating mangoes and sweets in jail so that he could get bail or undergo medical treatment. He is increasing his sugar level to prepare medical base.
However, Delhi CM’s counsel has denied the allegation levelled by the Directorate that Delhi CM, despite being a diabetic patient, is eating mangoes and sweets to seek bail on medical grounds.
What happened during Friday hearing
On Friday, it was claimed that the food items served to Kejriwal did not match the diet prescribed by the doctor, while the Delhi CM’s counsel argued that the food was sent from home. Of the food sent from home, only three times were mangoes.
The court ordered that Kejriwal’s food be examined. It was asked how many times sweets were put in it, whether mangoes were there or not, so in this context the verdict was in Kejriwal’s favour that no such thing was found which could cast doubt on Kejriwal. In response to this, Kejriwal’s lawyer said that his mango was not sent after April 8.
What the jail report said, how court reacted
The jail authorities have accused Kejriwal of stopping taking insulin some time ago and hence he is maintaining his sugar level. Officials say that they are not getting food as per the court’s order. They are getting fruits in the food two to three times. It is being said by the jail authorities that Kejriwal is not following his prescribed diet.
The court told Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer that a diet chart was filed on April 1. Arvind Kejriwal had to follow the chart according to which he was allowed food from home. He has not given any explanation for it.
Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer argued that I do not think it is the law that the jail officer can say on an application that the applicant cannot get home cooked food. I have no problem with that. They can stop my home cooked food on their request. I have followed the diet chart with a small exception that mango and aalu puri have come three times in the prasad.
