After settling a confidential lawsuit, tech giant Meta Facebook’s owner has agreed to pay a whopping $725 million to users of its platform who were affected by its shoddy practices. A notification was sent to Facebook users in April informing them that they were eligible to apply.

The application was opened in the summer, and users were given a deadline of August 25 to apply and as of September 7, more than 17 million claims had been initially honored.

The judge gave a final deadline to act on the agreement on October 11. But after some objections, we are now in the appeal period and two objectors have already filed appeals.

According to TheHall, 28 million Americans applied for the settlement through Angeion, the company handling the case. This makes it the most filed claim in US history and as it has been reported earlier, 5lakh of them have been rejected.

What is the Facebook Settlement Payout Date?

Unfortunately, there is still no specific date given as to when the successful claimant will be able to expect payment. The legal battle is still ongoing, even if the claim has been finally approved.

As of now, the Angeion Claims Portal linked above in this article indicates that despite the Court’s orders granting both motions and dismissing the filed objections, two objectors have filed Notices of Appeal.

It further states that settlement payments cannot be distributed to letter claimants until the appeal is resolved. The timeframe for resolving an appeal may vary and we will learn more about this as the appeal progresses.

It is now thought that when payments are made, the average amount will be around $30 per claimant.
